The digital media flagship program of the Government of India. It was launched by Prime Minister Modi in 2015. The aim is to create digital infrastructure and improve digital literacy.
To make Digital India successful, social media plays an important role. Social Media helps the digital India program to succeed, grow and develop. Today social media is not limited to a particular section of society. Even the lower class can afford them.
Smartphones have become common today. As per the survey, India is the second-largest phone market. Social Media plat-from like Facebook, Twitter, What app, LinkedIn, etc. have become common today. They are rising by the day in terms of popularity. People of all age groups are active on them.
With a 'scroll' or a 'click', a whole new world of information opens before us. Social Media bring the whole on the same plat-from. It brings people closer to one another. It is a part and parcel of our life.
Social Media helps to gather, store and retrieve information. It helps us to remain connected. Breaking news often goes viral on social media faster than commercial channels. Social Media helps in marketing, research, sales promotion, etc. It has broken off regional boundaries. People have come under one roof.
Social Media is an important tool/ weapon in the election campaign. It helps in surveys. It educates and entertains us. It has a great impact on society. It has brought a radical change in society. We cannot imagine our life without social media.
Like most things, Social Media is a double-edged sword, though. It has its advantages and limitations. It is in the people and the Government to bring about positive changes rather than turn into a social evil.
